The three of us took hands, each whispering a silent prayer that this would work. It had to end. All of it had to end. Each of us eyed one another before taking our last breath and closed our eyes. We jumped.

Prologue My life had never been that bad. I’d been a straight ‘A’ student, a band geek, and a soccer fanatic. Most everything I wanted I could get with a little hard work. My life had been easy compared to most. Though I didn’t live with both of my parents, my mother was the best mother one could ask for. She raised me on her own with two other children as well. She may have not been there every time I needed her, but that was where friends came in, right? My sisters had always been supportive of me. Until now. See, there were a few things about my family that you never talked about. These were the ‘sensitive topics’ to me. First off, I was a major Lezbo. Not that my family knew that, actually, they were highly against such things. “Being a Lesbian is like sitting next to a murder at church.” My mom used to say. “It’s just wrong.” That brings me to the second sensitive topic, religion. See, I was an Atheist, and my family, well, they were Catholics. Not to say Catholics are bad people, but well, they’re very pushy on religion sometimes and have a hard time looking past the Bible and thinking open mindedly. Another problem, I was in a love triangle. I believed in poly-relationships, where as my family would die if they knew I was dating two girls at the same time. Not that I was cheating on either girl, they both knew I was dating both of them and was okay with it. Last sensitive topic was my eating disorder. My family was constantly calling me fat, so one day, I just stopped eating. Of course, they don’t know about that either. To them that’s one more thing they’re against. I didn’t say that my family gave me an eating disorder, but they sure didn’t help it. Now usually, none of this was a problem at home. When the topics came up, I’d learned to bit my tongue and stay quiet or agree politely to the conversation. I never told, they never asked, and so the secret was kept a secret. I never would tell them. But you know… lying and sneaking around, you only get so far before something slips. Today happened to be that day. Today was the worst day of my life…

Chapter 1 I love you.I love both of you more. Not possible. I’m the one with the biggest heard here. Besides, you two wouldn’t even know each other without me…=) You always bring that up. Not fair… But I still love you two more.Alright, Alright, we all love each other equally. But we need to plot. Can we meet after school or no?I told my mom I was going to tutoring.Which you should be doing… I don’t want to see you hurt again like that.Me neither. That was scary. My mom promised she wouldn’t do it again, and what are you crabbing about, Rachel. I know your parent beat you too. Yeah, but I don’t parade around the school with it. It was one time! Girls, come on, let’s focus here. It is a yes or a no we can meet after school? It’s a yes for me. Told my mom we had band practice. Alright, good Rachel. Martha, what about you? It’s a yes for me. Like I said, I told them I had torturing. Man, we really should be paying attention to the lesson, guys. Yeah, we should, but we can always catch up later. I’m bored with the Revolutionary War, aren’t you girls bored with it too? I mean we’ve only been talking about it for three weeks now. Very true, Jasmine... I still don’t get it… The Revolutionary War in the United States, began as a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies, but gradually grew into a world war between Britain on one side and the newly formed United States, France, Netherlands, Spain, and Mysore on the other. American independence was achieved and European powers recognized the independence of the United States, with mixed results for the other nations involved. France, Spain and the Dutch Republic all secretly provided supplies, ammunition and weapons to the revolutionaries starting early in 1776. By June 1776 the Americans were in full control of every state, but then the British Royal Navy captured New York City and made it their main base. The war became a standoff. The Royal Navy could occupy other coastal cities for brief periods, but the rebels controlled the countryside, where 90 percent of the population lived. British strategy relied on mobilizing Loyalist militia and was never fully realized. A British invasion from Canada in 1777 ended in the capture of the British army at the Battles of Saratoga. Okay… But what’s this about the Peace Treaty? In 1783, the Treaty of Paris ended the war and recognized the sovereignty of the United States over the territory bounded roughly by what is now Canada to the north, Florida to the south, and the Mississippi River to the west. A wider international peace was agreed, in which several territories were exchanged. Man, I need you two as my cheat sheet. Don’t worry, Martha. We’ll help you prepare for the test. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
The final bell rang and all three of us were relieved school was over. I headed to the A/B hallway and fell behind the eager crowd almost trampling over people to get out of class into the freedom’s air. I sat quietly on the bench throwing my book bag down at my feet. I was excited. We hadn’t all hung out in a while. It was hard to sneak around all of our parents on one set day. We had to plan weeks ahead. But it was worth it. I would be going out on a date with the two prettiest girls in the school. Alright, maybe we weren’t the prettiest girls, and we definitely weren’t the most popular girls in the school, but we liked to pretend we were sometimes. It was nice to give each other compliments about it as well. But anyway, I’m losing track. Martha and Rachel arrived finally after a few minutes of waiting, and then we were off. Ditching our book bags at Rachel’s place, we paused only to get a drink of water before heading out. Well all had around $10 dollars in our pockets and we were ready to do a skating date. Skating was something we all really liked. It was good exercise and it was also just really fun. We could skate holding hands and no one would expect us to all be “a thing”. It was brilliant. And even those who did see us all kiss each other, no one had yet said anything to us. “Ugh! Math class was brutal!” I complained. “Trig again?” Rachel asked. “Oh yeah. I’m flunking.” I said overdramatically. No I wasn’t flunking, I still had an A in the class, but I was just scraping by with a 90 as my average right now. “I doubt it.” Martha chimed in. “Did you guys see the fight in the lunch room today?” She asked. She was always one for gossip and though neither me nor Rachel were ones to listen to how a fight went down, we both couldn’t just burst her bubble when she was this wound up with information. “No, what happened?” I asked trying to sound intrigued. Martha then went into a long rant about how this boy and this other boy were knocking over tables and chairs trying to beat each other down. Me and Rachel exchanged looks of ‘here we go again’ before looking back to Martha. “No way!” Rachel said in her cheery voice encouraging Martha to go on. We both did that when Martha was in her gossip mode. We would give two word replies and zone out on most of it. Martha finally finished up as we rounded the corner. Only two blocks away from the skating rink now. “Gosh, looks busy.” Rachel said sarcastically as we all looked at the possibly ten cars in the parking lot. “Yeah, I know.” Martha played along. “We might have to wait an hour in line.” We all grin at each other at that statement.
